Why join us

Working with St Albans City & District Council

The Council directly employs just over 400 people, 70% work full-time and 30% work part-time hours.  Almost 80% of our roles have some form of flexibility in their working pattern or hours.
The people we employ are central to our success and are fundamental to ensuring we are an organisation that is fit for the future.
Attracting and retaining the right people, providing the development they need to allow them to grow, managing that talent and planning for the future, are key to how we lead and manage our people and deliver services for our communities.
Our Workforce Development Plan demonstrates our aspirations and sets out how we lead, support and develop our people, ensuring we have the capacity to deliver and individuals are given opportunities to grow.

The Council regularly engages with its employees and gains their views using surveys, focus groups and champions who help shape our transformation agenda and priorities.

The Council’s values are:

We act with integrity and are open in our communication
We are committed to our community
We work together as one organisation, exceeding customer expectations by going the extra mile

These are underpinned by the expectations of attitude and behaviours set out in our current competency framework.

In 2017/18 we will be working with people from across the council to review and refresh these values and behaviours aligned to our ‘Shaping our Future’ transformation programme.

So join us and be part of shaping what we deliver and the way we work for the future.
